I bought this book a few months ago and it’s been sitting on my desk ever since. About a week or two ago, I decided to finally read it and I’m glad I did. This book is absolutely amazing!  To give you a quick synopsis, The Purity Myth is about how “virginity” is hurting young women.  Valenti gives examples about how years ago abstinence/purity balls were funded by the government. She also tackles that once a teen becomes sexually active, they are deemed “at risk”. As if having sex is a gateway to becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol.  What I’ve taken from the book is that virginity is not real. Virginity is something that mainly affects women. If a woman is a “virgin” then they are pure, clean, and untouched. As if having sex makes you dirty.  I don’t want to give everything away, but trust me when I say that this book is amazing. I’m hoping to either write or film a few video discussing this book. Definitely check it out!
